SUMMER INSOMNIAC
September 22, 2026
Yesterday I wrote that SUMMER INSOMNIAC was another walk around a circle I didn’t realise I was writing about when I wrote it.
That probably needs some explaining.
Because Summer Insomniac was never supposed to be part of Chapter 02. Actually, when I wrote it, Chapter 02 didn’t exist.
There was no CIRCLES. No idea connecting these songs. No plan for where any of it would eventually end up.
There was just a pre-summer night, Chapter 01 had just been released and finished And me being awake in the middle of the night,
Again.
I have spent a ridiculous amount of my life awake when most normal people are sleeping.
Sometimes because my body refuses to cooperate. Sometimes because my head does. Sometimes both.
But there is something strange about summer nights. Especially the ones where it never really gets dark.
Everything becomes quieter without becoming completely still. The world feels temporarily abandoned, like everybody else has agreed to leave you alone with it for a few hours. Up here in the north summer is a period of more or less constant light and the winters are thick with constant darkness.
And when you can’t sleep, you notice things.
You hear things differently. You remember things you weren’t planning to remember.
That was where Summer Insomniac came from.
